[HIForum] HIForum-News 5/2013/Einladungen: 27.6. Stammtisch, 3.7. Sommerfest der Informatik

Liebe Mitglieder,

http://www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/Info/aktuell/sommerfest-2013.shtml
Wir freuen uns auf viele Alumni des Fachbereichs, die das Fest bereichern werden. Erstmalig können Sie zu diesem Termin den ersten "Alumnibecher" erwerben!

Wir sehen uns...

Herzliche Grüße

Topic:

Jamming in Wireless Sensor Networks: Some Research Perspectives
_______________________________________________________________

Abstract:
Jamming is an important class of attacks that can severely affect the
successful functioning of any wireless network. The consequence of jamming
in sensor networks is particularly serious due to their resource
constraints and challenged environments of operation. The
Fundamental reason for such vulnerability to attacks is the open and
shared nature of communication medium of wireless networks. Depending on
the attacker¹s objective, the attack is termed as jamming or misbehavior.
If the attacker directly manipulates the protocol parameters to obtain
performance benefits for itself, the attack is termed as misbehavior. The
attack is referred to as jamming, if the attacker exploits protocol
semantics by disrupting network communication intentionally. Sensor
networks are subject to four kinds of jamming attacks constant, random,
deceptive, and reactive jamming. Detection of jamming and its
discrimination from other types of radio-link deteriorations, especially
as applicable to wireless sensor networks, is a challenging problem; and
as such, only few solutions exist.
The speaker will talk about the problem of jamming in wireless sensor
networks, with focus on military applications. He will then specifically
talk about some of his works done with his colleagues and students in
regard to jamming attack detection and jammed area mapping in wireless
sensor networks.

Speaker biography:
Dr. Sudip Misra is an Associate Professor in the School of Information
Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. At present, he
is in Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. His current research
interests include algorithm design for emerging communication networks.
Dr. Misra is the author of over 150 scholarly research papers. He has won
six research paper awards in different conferences. He was also the
recipient of several academic awards and fellowships such as the IEEE
ComSoc Asia Pacific Young Researcher Award, Young Scientist Award
(National Academy of Sciences, India), Young Systems Scientist Award
(Systems Society of India), Young Engineers Award (Institution of
Engineers, India), and the (Canadian) Governor General¹s Academic Gold
Medal. Dr. Misra was also invited to deliver keynote lectures in over a
dozen international conferences in USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and Africa.
