*Adapting Teaching Strategies to the Learning Preferences of students*
The ways in which an individual acquires, retains and retrieves information are termed as the individual's learning preferences. While students have individual learning preferences (active/reflective, sensing/intuitive, visual/verbal, sequential/global), mismatches often occur between the learning preferences of students and the teaching style of instructor with unfortunate effects on the quality of the students' learning. One way to bridge this gap is to consider learning preferences in our teaching strategies.
The presentation is an aspect of an ongoing research at the School of Information Sciences in Addis Ababa University. It aims to address the preparation of materials for teaching, based on students' learning preferences. In particular, it reports on the findings of a survey conducted to determine learning preferences of students of Information systems at Addis Ababa University.
The presentation also provides an outline on how the findings of the survey are to be used in subsequent activities for development of e-Learning content as well as in future research works in the area of Adaptive e-Learning Systems.
